About me

I have decided to create this page for a number of reasons:

  1. Shabby Blogs' awesome designs inspired me to create yet another blog! (it's true!)
  2. My family is trying to learn to eat healthier, and by that I mean GMO-free, as well, so why not share?
  3. I have found sites for the not-so-die-hard health nuts difficult to find (so here's one for you!)
  4. If you are like me, research time is short while meal time is always upon you, so hopefully this site will come in handy
Furthermore, I have health issues that need to be addressed. I am not very good at addressing them because frankly, I am not big on veggies. At least, not once they are cooked. It occurred to me after I was married that not eating them out of a can helped immensely! It also occurred to me, later, that cooking them just under 'done' for most people is much more pleasant for me. Who knew texture plays such a large part in 'taste'?

Note to self: Remember this as toddler grows!

Which brings me to another point - I have a toddler that I want to continue enjoying fruits and vegetables, only I want him to enjoy the ones that are not covered in pesticides and are not genetically modified or engineered, if I can help it. And by 'help it,' I mean afford it or otherwise prevent it.

For instance, I just found out that Cheerios is a GMO food. Who knew? I've been feeding it to my darling all this time. Not to mention myself. I am a cereal fiend. Kinda like Jerry Seinfeld, if I daresay. And corn? My all-time favorite vegetable? Well, it's beginning to look like that's off the table. Until I can find some of the good stuff. Still doing my research on that.

Fortunately for me - and you - I love, love, love doing research! AND... sometimes my darling still takes naps! :)

I am going to steal a few things away from my other blog about clean eating to get this up and going. But feel free to sneak a peak at my other blogs anyway. Many interesting things over there..! ;)

  2. Great to hear that you are working toward a healthy diet. Edan definitely deserves to have you around much longer and diet is an important factor. One of the most in my opinion. I can tell you from my own eating habits that this is true.

I used to eat fast food almost daily. I loved french fries, ice cream, candy bars, buttery muffins, and big messy burgers. They tasted good so I kept eating them. Then I started learning about what is in our food and became disgusted. I started by not eating meat and paying attention to preservatives and additives, I then became addicted to organics and now I am for non-GMO food as well.

It was DIFFICULT. It has taken me years to learn how to eat healthy. I now know that soy and tofu are bad and that while cutting back on gluten and carbs is good, my body feels happy eating those foods in much smaller servings. Now I eat mostly fresh food, stay away from processed, convenient food and eat more smaller meals throughout the day.
Watch out for the worlds "natural" and "added vitamins". Most foods are already natural so that's just a marketing ploy and our bodies don't necessarily process those added vitamins.

Seasoning is a great way to change your diet. I buy lots of spices, dips, and glazes to make ordinary veggies taste DELICIOUS!
You can do this. Just stick with it and you will see a payoff in just a year.
